New apartments, Worthing

Scheme for 65 new build apartments in Worthing on the site of an existing industrial estate.

What did DZ do?

Working initially for the landowner we helped with the development of initial sketch schemes to maximise the return on the site. When a national house builder got involved at the planning stage we then worked closely with them to prepare the full detailed planning application package and visualisations.

Design issues

The Local Authority was very clear that the development should be traditional in nature and respond to the existing Victorian terraces which characterise this area. Working closely with the planning department and the design manager at the house builders, we formulated a scheme for three accommodation blocks, using the standard flat-plans of the developer in a back-to-back arrangement. At the same time we had to give the appearance visually of this being a standard Victorian terrace and to hide the parking areas, bin stores and cycle sheds.

The application received approval on its first submission and was praised by the committee for the quality of design.
